What are your Thanksgiving plans this year?
"My wife and I never had Thanksgiving as a big thing growing up. My family was always about an excuse for a day with lots of food, but there wasn't anything Thanksgiving-y about it, and they certainly weren't going to let me cook. So, when we moved into our own place, we thought it would be fun to try our hand at dinner."
"About six or seven years ago, we started going to a coworkers' annual Thanksgiving thing, which worked out pretty well because that's also around the time our first kid was born, and cooking a meal with a tyke is a more daunting task. We still cooked on the Wednesday or Friday, but it was a lower-effort affair, and we were only hosting one or two people max on those days, so it was whatever."
"But this year, it's our first time without any standing Thanksgiving plans, so we're going back to cooking the shebang, albeit with two kids underfoot (only one of which is old enough to be of any, likely questionable, use in the kitchen). Anyway, what are you doing this year? Same ol' same ol', or like the Braves failing to make the playoffs for the first time in eight years, is there a change in procedure this autumn?"
They rarely experienced traditional Thanksgiving growing up, with family treating the day as an excuse for food and not allowing them to cook. After moving into their own place they attempted full dinners, frequently making too much food and ending up with weeks of leftovers. Six or seven years ago they began attending a coworker-hosted Thanksgiving around the time their first child was born, which reduced hosting demands. They continued making lower-effort meals on adjacent days for a small number of guests. This year they have no standing plans and will prepare the full Thanksgiving meal while managing two young children.
