Atkinson, notable for leading the team with 7.5 sacks last season, has made a significant impact over his two years at UNC. Meanwhile, Browne, who previously transferred from Purdue, played only one season with the Tar Heels. The team is also targeting South Alabama quarterback Gio Lopez while securing linebacker Mikai Gbayor from Nebraska, who adds depth to their roster.
With the Tar Heels in pursuit of South Alabama quarterback Gio Lopez, Browne is leaving as well.
Atkinson led the Tar Heels with 7.5 sacks last season and had 54 tackles in two seasons at UNC.
Browne arrived at UNC in December after transferring in from Purdue, where he passed for 532 yards during the 2024 season.
Wednesday, the Tar Heels landed linebacker Mikai Gbayor, who had 49 tackles for Nebraska last season.
