Chris Harper from Jayco AlUla shifted focus from the General Classification to stage wins after facing health issues during the Giro d'Italia. Initially aiming for a high overall finish, illness during the second week forced him onto antibiotics, dampening his GC hopes. Nevertheless, he successfully reoriented his goals, achieving victory in Stage 20 at Colle delle Finestre. Harper's adaptability and resilience showcased his determination to conclude the race positively, highlighting a shift from an overall ambition to seizing stage opportunities in the climactic week.
I felt quite good at the start [of the Giro d'Italia], but unfortunately on that second rest day in the afternoon I started to feel pretty bad and ended up on antibiotics.
To be able to turn it around and finish on such a positive note, I'm really happy.
