The Braves are trading OF/DH Jorge Soler to the Angels for right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning, clearing a log jam in the outfield and DH position.
Soler’s performance in Atlanta featured a wRC+ of 135, but his defensive struggles prompted the team to move him after two years and in light of Acuña's health concerns.
Griffin Canning, coming off a down year, offers potential as a long man in the bullpen or a 5th/6th starter, strengthening the Braves' pitching depth.
The deal allows the Braves to escape the $26 million owed to Soler over the next two seasons while addressing their roster needs effectively.
