"Heim did a fine job in backup duty of Baldwin over the past month, hitting .231/.311/.410 (99 wRC+) across 45 plate appearances."
"In case of an injury to Baldwin or Murphy in the weeks to come, the club would likely call upon Chadwick Tromp, who is currently in Triple-A Gwinnett."
The Atlanta Braves traded backup catcher Jonah Heim to the Athletics for cash considerations shortly after designating him for assignment. With Sean Murphy returning from the injured list, Heim was excluded from the 26-man roster. Although there was consideration to retain Heim and carry three catchers, the team's outfield injuries necessitated the decision to part ways with him. Heim performed adequately in backup duty, hitting .231/.311/.410 over 45 plate appearances. Chadwick Tromp is expected to be called up as the backup catcher if needed.
