Austin Riley, the Atlanta Braves' third baseman, has been diagnosed with a fractured right hand and is projected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks following a hit by a pitch.
The injury comes as the Braves are competing for playoff positioning, currently sitting second in the National League East, seven games behind the Phillies and two in front of the Mets for the wild-card spot.
Reynaldo López, who was activated from the injured list, boasts an impressive 7-4 record with a 2.06 ERA this season and is set to start against the Phillies.
Despite Riley's injury, the Braves are making roster adjustments, which include optioning Jimmy Herget to Triple-A Gwinnett in preparation for the upcoming games.
