Braves Recall Alex Verdugo, Option Bryan De La Cruz
Briefly

The Atlanta Braves have recalled outfielder Alex Verdugo from Triple-A Gwinnett, following the optioning of Bryan De La Cruz to Gwinnett. Verdugo, who will turn 29 soon, has significant major league experience, complicating his optioning to the minors. He opted for the assignment to continue his training after a late signing with Atlanta on a $1.5MM deal, having missed spring training. His placement in Triple-A serves as a means for him to regain form before rejoining the Braves roster.
Verdugo agreed to accept an optional assignment due to his lingering free agency. He remained unsigned until the second half of March, eventually getting a $1.5MM deal from Atlanta.
As a veteran with at least five years of major league service time, Verdugo cannot be optioned to the minors without his consent.
