Bryce Elder would strike out 9 with only 1 walk over 5.0 innings in his Saturday spot start...he gave up 6 earned runs and 2 home runs in that 5.0 inning outing. The biggest thing for Bryce is keeping the walks down.
I am quite skeptical that he will suddenly become a real strikeout pitcher, but if he can consistently keep walking batters at a rate similarly to Saturday, he can finally take that step to being a consistently playable major league pitcher.
