Braves Minor League Player Review: Owen Murphy
Briefly

Murphy spent the year almost entirely in Low-A after pitching seven innings there in 2022. He went 6-3 with a 4.71 ERA, 3.74 FIP, and 3.47 xFIP, striking out 97 and walking 28 in 72 2⁄ 3 innings there.
Murphy ranked second on our preseason version of the Top 25 prospect list, behind only AJ Smith-Shawver. At that time, he was coming in for his age-19 season with a promising four-pitch mix and feel for throwing strikes, but would likely need some time to develop as a two-way, former multi-sport athlete from a cold-weather state.
The biggest concern for Murphy was a brief stretch where he was homer-prone. After making five starts without allowing a homer to open the year and closing in Augusta with five straight without allowing a homer, he spent the middle eight games allowing eight homers - giving up at least one in all but one outing.
