Brady Basso, the southpaw pitcher for the A's, has been shut down temporarily due to a shoulder strain with no clear timetable for return. Although he wasn't assured a place on the Opening Day squad, Basso's impressive rookie performance in 2024 positioned him as a strong contender. In 22 1/3 innings, he achieved a 4.03 ERA and an impressive strikeout rate. Currently, the team has established pitchers in the rotation, but Basso's injury might eliminate his chances, possibly placing him on the 60-day IL if the strain is serious.
He's only allowed one of 14 opponents to reach (a walk) and had fanned four batters. Things can change in a hurry in a small spring sample.
While Basso wasn't guaranteed a spot on the Opening Day roster - he still has a pair of minor league option years remaining.
