"Coming into 2025, it was widely agreed the season was a huge one for Tavarez, who would be 22 and had only played 50 games at the high-A level so far in his career. Any type of offensive progress was welcomed, but it was desperately needed for the former top international signee who has yet to post an OPS north of .689."
"Things got off to a relatively solid start for Tavarez, who returned to high-A to begin the season. In 77 at-bats in the month of April, the then 21-year-old posted an OPS of .705 with a batting average of .260. Those numbers aren't typically great, but it was an encouraging sign that perhaps Tavarez might be turning things around at the plate."
"There were a handful of individual performances Tavarez should be proud of - most notably a 4-5 outing with a double and a run scored on April 10 against Bowling Green. However, the offensive inconsistencies that have plagued his career showed back up again once the calendar flipped over to May. Your browser does not support the video tag. Over the course of his 98 games with Rome, Tavarez posted an abysmal .596 OPS in addition to a batting average of .209."
Ambioris Tavarez signed out of the Dominican Republic during the 2020-2021 international period for $1.5 million. Tavarez entered 2025 as a pivotal season at age 22 after only 50 high-A games in his career. Offensive progress was urgently needed as he had never posted an OPS above .689. He began 2025 in high-A and produced a .705 OPS and .260 batting average across 77 April at-bats, including a 4-for-5 game on April 10. Offensive inconsistencies returned in May. Across 98 games with Rome he recorded a .596 OPS and a .209 batting average, then received a promotion to Double-A Columbus where he again struggled in 15 games and 53 plate appearances.
