Voss Gallery in Mission closes, but will continue virtually and 'nomadically'
"Economics, I think, plays a part in everyone's story, especially now,"
"But it was more of the lease coming to an end and that made me want to pause and rethink how I'm allocating my resources rather than committing to another long-term lease."
"Sometimes we get so caught up in the groove that we don't have time for reflection,"
"I'm curious to see how else I can better support artists without being tied to a physical location, without having to manage, operate and run the gallery space."
The Voss Gallery at 3344 24th St. closed its Mission District storefront on Aug. 31 after owner Ashley Voss chose not to renew the lease. The gallery will remain fully operational online, where 70 percent of sales occur, and the Voss Collectors Club will continue its activities. Closing the physical space frees funds and time for other projects, including SF Art Guide and potential nonprofit work. The gallery will represent artists nomadically, pursue pop-up shows and collaborations with local businesses and venues, and continue supporting artists outside a fixed storefront.
