The small French village that hosts the world's only street art theme park
"In the village is a collection of 13 buildings that were previously used as a training centre for France Télecom. When the centre closed, they were bought by a local couple who created Street Art City, the world's only street art theme park. The collection of old buildings now forms an extraordinary canvas - 22,000 square metres, entirely covered in street art."
"Since it first opened to the public in 2017, Street Art City has been steadily gaining in popularity and attracts 30,000 visitors each year (the park is only open between May and November) and also hosts around 1,000 artists a year who travel to create designs on the walls. A further 1,000 artists are currently on the waiting list to attend, and Street Art City now offers artistic residencies."
Street Art City occupies 13 former France Télecom training-centre buildings in Lurcy-Lévis, covering 22,000 square metres with murals and street art. The site opened to the public in 2017 and attracts about 30,000 visitors annually during its May–November season. Around 1,000 artists are hosted each year to create wall designs, with another 1,000 on a waiting list, and artistic residencies are offered. The complex includes a hotel with 128 artist-decorated rooms, a café, an indoor gallery and a shop where artists sell work. The project began after Sylvie Iniesta imagined drawings on abandoned walls and, together with Gilles Iniesta, researched street art online despite no formal artistic background.
