The article highlights the work of artist Cases, who explores the vibrant subculture of Spanish pigeon racing, where birds are hand-painted in neon colors. This unique tradition serves as a backdrop for Cases' artistic exploration of urban identity in San Sebastian. By redefining everyday scenes, he challenges familiar perceptions of landscapes. Amid this, Cases faced personal loss from floods that destroyed his studio, yet he continues to draw inspiration from the local landscape, using spontaneity in his work to address themes of nature and identity that reflect the community's essence.
Cases turns his gaze towards the city, composing in it a series of short phrases filled with the magic of everyday life. My intention in this work is to try to look at the most photographed city in the Basque country with different eyes.
The idea behind this project is to recompose the everyday scenes that appear on postcards until the familiar image is exhausted and the picture a resident of San Sebastian would see every day is altered.
