"In a nearly three-hour marathon double sale, the first in its new Breuer Building digs, Sotheby's on Tuesday evening sold Gustav Klimt's portrait of Elisabeth Lederer for $236.4 million, the second highest price ever paid for an artwork at auction-and that wasn't all. Two Klimt landscapes later, the auction house had sold a total of nearly $400 million in paintings by the Vienna Secession artist."

The Lauder selection also included Vincent van Gogh's The Sower in a Wheatfield (1888).
