The SMAC San Marco Art Centre is set to open on May 9, 2025, coinciding with the Venice Biennale. Located in the historic Procuratie, restored by David Chipperfield Architects, SMAC spans over 1,000 square meters and consists of sixteen galleries. It aims to challenge conventions in art and architecture. The center will host its inaugural exhibition, "Migrating Modernism: The Architecture of Harry Seidler," spotlighting the journey of the noted architect. This restoration culminates in a public re-access of the Procuratie after 500 years, fostering an engaged cultural community in Venice.
"We focus on content that sheds light on the unexpected, that challenges conventions and poses rigorous questions," said co-founders Anna Bursaux, David Gramazio, and David Hrankovic.
"This 500-year-old masterpiece has been reopened to the city and the world, designed to welcome and inspire a vibrant community that is engaged and dedicated to the great challenges of the future," commented Simone Bemporad.
