In the finale of the new TV series, Rusty is again acquitted and reveals to his wife, Barbara, that he has known all along that she killed Carolyn, only to realize their daughter, Jaden, was the actual murderer.
Rusty stages the crime scene to protect Barbara, but both are shocked to find out the truth together that Jaden was the one who killed Carolyn with a fireplace poker.
