The Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) has announced the dropping of lawsuits with the family of its former director, Aaron De Groft, following his death. De Groft was at the center of a scandal regarding the authenticity of works in a Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibition. After FBI raids and a controversy surrounding the provenance of the artwork, OMA decided it was not practical to pursue litigation. The scandal began when concerns were raised about the legitimacy of 25 paintings attributed to Basquiat, which De Groft staunchly defended despite skepticism from experts and stakeholders in the art world.
"My reputation is at stake as well," he told the Times. "And I've absolutely no doubt these are Basquiats."
