""It's such a good feeling to have his works back in public, living and breathing on the walls, and being enjoyed by all who see them," Gabriel Prokofiev states, reflecting on the positive response to his father's art."
"Oleg Prokofiev's work developed in opposition to the rigid doctrine of socialist realism imposed by Joseph Stalin's regime, which dictated that art be 'socialist in content, and realist in form.'"
"After the death of Camilla Gray, Oleg Prokofiev moved to the UK, believing his paintings left in Moscow were lost, only to find them preserved by the new owner of his former home."
Oleg Prokofiev's abstract paintings, created in defiance of Soviet censorship in the 1950s, will be exhibited in London for the first time. The exhibition, titled Bending Time, is hosted at Prokofiev Studio in Hackney, founded by his children. Gabriel Prokofiev expresses joy in sharing his father's work with the public. Oleg Prokofiev, son of composer Sergei Prokofiev, faced strict cultural controls under Stalin's regime, which dictated artistic expression. His relationship with art historian Camilla Gray influenced his work, and he believed his paintings were lost until rediscovering them in 1994.
