My Weekend With Yoko | Defector
Briefly

Attending a symposium celebrating Yoko Ono's work opened my eyes to the breadth and depth of her artistic contributions, notably beyond her public persona. Through various presentations, I discovered her pioneering role in conceptual performance art, beginning in New York's avant-garde scene. The event featured her interactive piece 'Wish Tree,' inviting participants to share their hopes. Amidst a mix of personal reflections and sociopolitical commentary displayed on tags, I grasped the poignant and layered philosophy behind Ono's art, despite my initial skepticism about its appeal.
Over the course of two days, I was mentally and emotionally blasted with a multidimensional view of her artistic philosophies and creation.
My intention was to figure out the legacy of Ono's art. Her artistic career began about 75 years ago in the avant-garde scene in New York.
