Lalo Schifrin, the Argentine composer famed for his dynamic film and TV scores, passed away at 93. He is renowned for creating iconic themes such as that of 'Mission: Impossible', distinguished by its innovative blend of Latin jazz rhythms. Schifrin's early musical training in Buenos Aires fostered a mix of classical, tango, and jazz influences, notably working with renowned figures like Dizzy Gillespie. His work scored over a hundred films and shows, leaving a significant impact on the music of thrilling narratives in cinema and television.
"He really was such a genius at combining rhythm, texture, instrumentation and melody in such a powerful and unique way," said composer Daniel Pemberton.
Mission: Impossible always got underway with a flaring match, a lit fuse, and the words 'this tape will self-destruct in five seconds,' but it was the flute glissando and the distinctly Latin beat that got things moving.
