"La Nona Ora shows Pope John Paul II lying on the ground, having seemingly been struck by a meteorite; the 'ninth hour' refers to the moment Christ died on the cross on Good Friday."
"Cattelan heightens the drama by inviting callers to confess their sins from 2 to 22 April on a special hotline, with those in 'most acute need of absolution' selected for live confessions."
"Catholicism is something you grow up inside, even if you try to step out of it. It's belief, theatre, control, comfort, all at once."
Maurizio Cattelan is releasing a miniature version of his artwork La Nona Ora, depicting Pope John Paul II, available in a limited edition of 666. The sculptures are priced at €2,200 and will be sold through a random draw. Cattelan is also offering a confessional hotline where individuals can confess their sins, with selected participants invited to confess live. The event will culminate in a live-streamed session where Cattelan will hear confessions and offer forgiveness, along with a chance to win a free sculpture.
