Roland Augustine is retiring from Luhring Augustine gallery after co-founding it with Lawrence Luhring in 1985. The gallery began on Manhattan's Upper East Side, later moved to SoHo, and established itself in Chelsea in 1998. The gallery operated a Bushwick outpost from 2012 to 2023 and opened a Tribeca space in 2020. Artists represented have included Christopher Wool, Salman Toor, and Rachel Whiteread. Augustine will concentrate on philanthropic work and independent advising. He holds trustee and board roles at Bard-affiliated institutions and served as ADAA president from 2006 to 2009. Luhring has bought out Augustine's share and will promote longtime employees to principals.
