Hong Gyu Shin, a New York-based gallery owner and the first named Korean to purchase a Van Gogh, bought 'Head of a Peasant' for $787,000 at Sotheby's. This notable acquisition marks the inaugural loan of a Van Gogh from a Korean collector, displayed at the newly opened KAIST Museum in Daejeon. Shin's exhibition features 49 artworks, emphasizing personal connections with art by recreating parts of his apartment for visitors. Shin's fascination with Van Gogh began as a teenager, and he hopes to inspire other Korean collectors in appreciating art.
" Vincent is a pivotal figure in my life and career. My journey with art has always been intertwined with his influence, and acquiring this piece is a realization of a lifelong dream. I hope this can inspire more collectors in Korea to share their passion for art."
"My exhibition, 'The Vault of Masterpieces,' is unique as it allows viewers to experience my personal connection with the art. I wanted to create an intimate space that shows how I live and value these works."
