""These works are an exploration of the human body's elasticity and capacity to metamorphose. Informed by my own experience of pregnancy and the birth of my first child last year, these paintings are a meditation on physiological transformation and the body's underlying animalistic and mammalian nature.""
Kate Meissner's new paintings at Lyles & King focus on the human body's elasticity and capacity for metamorphosis. Inspired by her recent experience of pregnancy and childbirth, these works serve as a meditation on physiological transformation and the inherent animalistic and mammalian nature of the body. Meissner, born in 1995 in Sacramento, CA, currently resides in Los Angeles and has her work included in several prestigious collections, including the Denver Art Museum and the Xiao Museum of Contemporary Art.
