ABACO is a solo exhibition at NANZUKA UNDERGROUND showcasing new works by Tokyo-based artist Haroshi. Haroshi has created artworks since 2003 using parts from old skateboard decks, developing a self-taught technique that recycles layered wood into sculptures and mosaics. Career activity includes collaborations with HUF and designing trophies for BATB. Past works include GUZO sculptures honoring used skateboards, soft vinyl pieces that repair and remodel action figures, and Mosh Pit mosaics made by chopping and rearranging skateboard decks to convey skateboarder histories. ABACO features sculptures inspired by Kokeshi dolls and discarded abacus beads presented together as an installation.
