The Benesse Art Site Naoshima, a celebrated art destination in Japan, has introduced the Naoshima New Museum of Art (NNMA) to showcase contemporary Asian art. Opening on May 31, the museum features a building designed by Tadao Ando with a focus on local community engagement. The inaugural exhibition centers on wellbeing and includes works from various acclaimed artists. NNMA aims to revitalize the region through repeated tourism and foster collaboration within the local community, blending traditional roots with a global perspective.
As the first museum to be located within a village on the island, NNMA further explores the vision of a museum that embodies the spirit of Naoshima - rooted in the local community yet open to the world.
The slowly rotating, untitled opening presentation centres around the concept of wellbeing and features works by 12 artists...including Takashi Murakami and Aida Makoto.
