Italy's art police seize 21 suspected forgeries from Dali exhibition
""If the works are indeed proven to be inauthentic, those who set up the exhibition will have to justify why they exhibited inauthentic works and, of course, may be liable for certain crimes of art forgery,""
""Something seemed amiss,""
""We noticed that only lithographs, posters and drawings by Dalí were on display, along with a few statues and other objects, but no paintings or anything of importance. It was difficult to understand why someone would want to organise an exhibition of such low-value works.""
Specialist Carabinieri TPC police seized 21 suspected Salvador Dalí forgeries from the Dalí, Between Art and Myth exhibition at Palazzo Tarasconi in Parma. A Rome court ordered the seizure after Carabinieri investigators and Dalí experts in Spain concluded the works may be fake. Authorities began to suspect in January during a routine check and noted the show contained mainly lithographs, posters and drawings with no major paintings. The Gala‑Salvador Dalí Foundation in Figueres confirmed it had not been consulted, expressed "strong perplexity," and deepened suspicions after visiting. The seized items comprised 18 lithographs and three drawings loaned by two Italian individuals.
