Hezbollah is organizing a massive funeral for its slain leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed by Israel. The ceremony aims to revive Hezbollah's image in Lebanon and assert its strength against external challenges. Tens of thousands are expected to attend, including Iranian dignitaries. The event will take place at a large stadium in Beirut, adorned with posters of Nasrallah. Hezbollah officials emphasize that the funeral signifies loyalty and determination, countering perceptions of weakness after the recent war with Israel, and reinforcing their commitment to resistance.
"Mr. Nasrallah's funeral is not a day of grief or a day of farewell, but a day of loyalty and renewal of our covenants and pledges to our leader," said Hezbollah member Hussein Haj Hassan.
"The funeral would be a moment to show to allies as well as to our enemies and opponents that we have not and will not weaken or cower."
"If you increase the challenge, we will respond with determination," continued Mr. Hassan, underscoring Hezbollah's resolve in the face of adversity.
"In killing Mr. Nasrallah, Israel eliminated a leader who enjoyed near-mythical status among Lebanon's Shiite Muslims, a significant moment in the confrontation between Iran's proxies and Israel."
