George Wendt, who played Norm on 'Cheers,' has died

George Wendt, famed for his portrayal of Norm Peterson on Cheers, has died at 76. His family shared that he passed peacefully in his sleep. Known as a loving family man, Wendt also had a notable career in comedy, starting with The Second City, and later appearing in various TV shows and films. He received six Emmy nominations for his iconic role in Cheers, which aired from 1982 to 1993, and reprised the character in several spinoffs. Wendt is survived by his wife, children, and nephew, actor Jason Sudeikis.
George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him.
Wendt was born on the South Side of Chicago, and got his start in the 1970s performing with the prestigious improv comedy troupe The Second City.
He earned six consecutive Primetime Emmy nominations for supporting actor in a comedy series, making an indelible mark as Norm Peterson on Cheers.
The role he was most known for was as Norm, who was in every episode of the NBC show Cheers, which ran from 1982 until 1993.
