Coney Island family sells entire wall featuring Banksy mural to Connecticut brewery for big bucks
"Bye-bye, Banksy."
"The Tagging Robot"
"Mr. Robot,"
"Why not? What are we going to do with it? Leave it on the wall and lose the money,"
A Brooklyn family sold a Banksy mural called "The Tagging Robot" from their Coney Island building for roughly $500,000 after pursuing buyers for about a decade. Banksy painted the robot in October 2013 shortly after Superstorm Sandy; the image showed an android spray painting a barcode and formed part of a global barcode series. The family protected the image behind a roll-down gate and hired a security guard while seeking a buyer. An arts company removed an entire section of the brick wall and transported it to a Connecticut brewery. A prior sale of another Banksy piece to a Bridgeport beer garden helped renew interest.
