An Intimate Portrait of Basquiat's Early Life Returns to Brooklyn | Artnet News
"The exhibition features 20 works of art as well as photographs and other ephemera dating back to the late 1970s-just before Basquiat launched his studio practice."
"Adler treated Basquiat with love, giving him a place to stay and letting him paint it from top to bottom."
"Many of these relics went to auction at Christie's in 2014. Those left over appeared in 'Basquiat Before Basquiat: East 12th Street, 1979-1980', a traveling museum show that launched at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver in 2017."
The exhibition 'Our Friend, Jean' will return to Brooklyn, featuring 20 works of art and photographs from the late 1970s. It opens on May 16 during Frieze Week at The Bishop Gallery. Most items are from Alexis Adler, who lived with Basquiat from 1979 to 1980. Adler's mementos include murals and garments he painted. The exhibition combines Adler's collection with contributions from other Basquiat associates. After its Brooklyn debut, the exhibition toured Historically Black Colleges and Universities across six American cities.
