Valerie, a mini dachshund, went missing during a camping trip on Kangaroo Island and survived for over 17 months in the wilderness. Despite being microchipped and having an Apple AirTag, she could not be located due to sparse Bluetooth devices in the area. Her owners, Georgia Gardner and Josh Fishlock, faced a heartbreaking decision to leave the island without her after extensive searching. They coped with her absence by imagining a happy scenario for her. Ultimately, Valerie’s incredible survival story led to her reunion with her owners, filled with emotion and joy.
"Leaving the island was probably the hardest decision I think I've ever made in my life. We went over there as three, and we were going back as two."
"It's her house and we just live in it a bit. She's the queen of the house."
