A new Istanbul gallery is offering an outlet for Iran's artists
""If I can introduce even one Iranian artist to the world, I will be happy.""
""We couldn't get in touch with any of the artists. Everything was prepared and suddenly we were completely cut off.""
Shiva Zahed Gallery opened in Istanbul's Pera district on 28 February, providing a platform for Iranian contemporary artists facing sanctions and instability. The inaugural exhibition, Echoes, features installation artist Shaqayeq Arabi and influential figure Fereydoun Ave. Originally set to open in January, the gallery faced delays due to protests in Iran and communication blackouts. Founder Shiva Zahed, a former medical doctor, aims to bridge the gap between Iranian artists and the global art community despite growing isolation and challenges.
