1-54 makes the most of its new home in New York
Briefly

The 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, taking place at Halo in New York's Financial District until May 11, showcases the growing presence of US-based galleries. Highlighted by founder Touria El Glaoui, the market for African art is shifting towards accessibility, with numerous pieces offered at varied price points. A total of 30 dealers are participating, including 10 from the US, such as Gallery Article 15, which specializes in Congolese art. The fair serves to spotlight artists from across the African diaspora, reinforcing the vibrant and diverse nature of African contemporary art.
This is our 11th edition here; the galleries are excited about showing at this venue. There has been a shift in the market [for African art].
We're the only gallery in the US specialising in Congolese contemporary art. There is an African art market in the US but it's focused on Ghana, South Africa and Nigeria.
We're here because the fair is unique and focused on all of the [African] diaspora. Rites of Passage #7 (diptych) (2024), is for sale at $20,000.
We're excited about showcasing accessible African art pieces through a fair that caters to a diverse artistic diaspora.
