X Games will experiment with an AI judge for the first time this week in a new collaboration with Google
Briefly

The X Games are set to debut an AI judge developed with Google Cloud to enhance objectivity in scoring competitions, specifically in the snowboarding SuperPipe event. Created to improve the fairness of judged sports, the AI has been trained on extensive snowboarding content and judging criteria. Despite its advanced capabilities, the AI's scores will not influence the competition outcomes this time around. CEO Jeremy Bloom emphasizes this project, which he discusses with Google cofounder Sergey Brin, aims to revolutionize how sports are judged, potentially ushering in a tech-driven future for competitive events.
Brin asked if we could do something together. I grew up in judged sports, and sometimes humans get it wrong, and the cost can be really high.
In the short amount of time that the model has existed, it's been trained on thousands of hours of snowboarding content, the judging criteria used.
Today it's demonstrating a great ability to understand tricks; the goal is to bring more objectivity to judged sports.
The project is game-changing and could preview a future where technology enhances scoring fairness in competitive events.
