Cultural experiences in Colombia emphasize a blend of conservative values and vibrant creativity influencing identity. The internet serves as a haven for self-exploration and personal growth, though it risks alienation from reality. A newfound obsession with self-help culture and trends like Lucky Girl Syndrome emerges as a young individual navigates independence. This project delves into the intersection of personal growth and societal expectations regarding female identity, reflecting broader issues in art and culture through a unique lens.
Growing up in Colombia and online has defined the way I create art, as my identity has been shaped by a country with both superficial and conservative values.
The internet became a safe space for me, allowing me to escape my feelings of being out of place and ultimately shaped my personality and interests.
In 2023, living alone led to an obsession with online self-help culture, particularly pseudo-spiritual content such as TikToks under the hashtag Lucky Girl Syndrome.
My project, Lucky Girl Syndrome, explores my fascination with self-help culture and questions the purpose of the female form in society.
