A new AI model has been developed to detect pain in goats by analyzing their facial expressions, achieving 80% accuracy. Traditionally, identifying pain in animals has been challenging due to the reliance on human interpretation of body language and behavioral changes. The research involved videotaping 40 goats in different medical conditions and generating over 5,000 frames. The AI was trained on these images, demonstrating that automated detection can improve the monitoring of livestock health and potentially reduce bias in animal pain recognition.
