We Already Have an Ethics Framework for AI (opinion)
Briefly

As an academic librarian, I witness the current digital revolution driven by AI, akin to previous transformations by the internet and Web 2.0. There’s a mixture of fear and resistance against AI, while advocacy for its responsible use is lacking. Emphasis should be on understanding AI's benefits and risks, promoting ethical assessments of technology. Historical lessons from Web 2.0 highlight the societal costs of technology, leading to polarization and mental health issues. Trust in AI must be earned by developers, and a robust ethical framework is essential for its future evaluation and use.
The burden of building trust in AI lies with the developers, as we cannot overlook past experiences with technology that have led to societal challenges.
AI should be perceived as a tool for specific interventions, with a focus on assessing the ethics behind those uses and acknowledging associated risks.
