Sam Altman just hired a CEO of Applications to help him grow his AI empire
Briefly

Sam Altman announced the hiring of Fidji Simo as the new CEO of Applications at OpenAI, while he retains his role as CEO. Altman highlighted Simo's contributions since joining OpenAI's board in March 2024 and expressed confidence in her ability to lead a new operational team that will enhance how research benefits the world. Simo will transition from her role at Instacart in the upcoming months. This change allows Altman to focus more on research, compute, and safety for the company.
I'll remain CEO of OpenAI, but in this new configuration I'll be able to increase my focus on research, compute, and safety.
Applications brings together a group of existing business and operational teams responsible for how our research reaches and benefits the world.
Fidji is exceptional; we have worked together on OpenAI for the past year and I have observed her deep commitment to our mission.
I cannot imagine a better new team member to help us scale the next 10x (or 100x, let's see).
