Amazon-owned Ring has launched a beta feature for its security devices that uses AI to deliver detailed notifications about motion activities around a property. Users will now receive specific descriptions, like 'a person is walking up the steps with a black dog,' instead of vague alerts. This feature aims to help users gauge urgency in real-time. It will initially be available for Ring Home Premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada. Ring also plans to roll out more AI features, including custom alerts and routine learning to identify anomalies, despite privacy concerns.
According to a blog post by Jamie Siminoff, Ring's founder and now Amazon's VP of home security, the company plans to introduce additional AI features.
Now, when users receive real-time notifications about happenings at their property, the updates will be more descriptive.
Ring intends to implement a 'custom anomaly alert' that allows users to define what constitutes an anomaly for their property.
This may be unsettling for some users, especially considering Ring's past privacy concerns.
