Researchers Are Already Leaving Meta's New Superintelligence Lab
"It was a tough decision not to continue with the new Superintelligence TBD lab, especially given the talent and compute density,"
"But after 7.5 years across Google Brain, DeepMind, and Meta, I felt the pull to take on a different kind of risk."
"During an intense recruiting process, some people will decide to stay in their current job rather than starting a new one,"
At least three AI researchers resigned from Meta Superintelligence Labs within two months of the initiative's announcement. Avi Verma, previously a researcher at OpenAI, and Ethan Knight, who had worked at OpenAI earlier and joined Meta from xAI, both returned to OpenAI after short stints at Meta. Rishabh Agarwal, who joined Meta in April and moved into MSL, announced his departure and cited pursuing a different kind of risk after roles at Google Brain, DeepMind, and Meta. Meta said intense recruiting can lead some candidates to stay at their current jobs. Chaya Nayak is leaving Meta to join OpenAI.
