Nokia opened a research and development hub in Oulu focused on the full lifecycle of 5G and 6G radio innovation designed for artificial intelligence. The facility will design, test and deliver next-generation networks and combine manufacturing with R&D across a 55,000 square metre footprint. Around 3,000 personnel from 40 nationalities will work at the site alongside universities, startups and regional technology companies. Construction began in the second half of 2022 with Arkkitehtitoimisto ALA as architect and YIT as builder, and the first employees moved into the facility in the first half of this year. The site continues Nokia’s Oulu presence dating to 1973 and aims to address AI-driven market shifts.
