Gov. Gavin Newsom announced three artificial intelligence projects targeting traffic and service efficiency in California. These initiatives aim to reduce highway congestion, improve roadway safety, and enhance customer service at state call centers. Newsom emphasized that these AI tools are designed to aid state workers rather than replace them, allowing employees to use technology to improve their productivity. California's Transportation Secretary, Toks Omishakin, stated that using these AI tools could significantly decrease the time required to solve traffic issues, illustrating the transformative potential of technology in government operations.
Gen AI is coming to traffic management in this state in a way that doesn't exist in any other state in America, said Newsom.
Employees can start to iterate and choose what they want, learn how these technologies can aid and advance their work to make them more productive, Newsom noted.
Two to three months will turn into two to three days of work once we start to use the generative AI tools to help us identify the problems more uniquely, according to Transportation Secretary Omishakin.
