Newly launched Agentic AI Foundation to take charge of MCP's future
"Three projects form the basis for this new foundation: Anthropic's hugely successful Model Context Protocol (MCP), Block's goose, and OpenAI's AGENTS.md. Of the three contributions, MCP is undoubtedly the best known. In November 2024, Anthropic launched the protocol on an open-source basis, after which it became commonplace within the AI community within a few months. It is the standard protocol that allows AI models to perform actions via tools, based on their own data and in communication with external applications."
"For this reason, it is not surprising that the foundation established by the Linux Foundation is called the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF). A month ago, MCP received a major update from its creator, Anthropic, primarily to raise the fairly basic security level and add much-requested features such as support for complex workflows. The other two projects that the AAIF is working on are goose from Block and AGENTS.md from OpenAI."
The Linux Foundation created the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) to combine three agentic AI projects: Anthropic's Model Context Protocol (MCP), Block's goose, and OpenAI's AGENTS.md. MCP is a widely adopted open-source protocol enabling AI models to invoke tools, act on their own data, and communicate with external applications; MCP recently received a major update improving security and adding support for complex workflows. Block's goose is an AI agent framework that integrates MCP to provide a stable local environment for agentic workflows, aiming to make AI rollout secure and consistent for organizations. AGENTS.md defines standards for coding agents to behave deterministically when consulting or manipulating repositories and tool chains.
