YouTuber Theo "t3.gg" Browne humorously shared his frustration over a sleepless night caused by his AI-powered mattress, which malfunctioned when he tried to adjust its temperature. The mattress, made by Eight Sleep, features advanced cooling technology and biometric tracking capabilities. However, Browne faced an unexpected twist when the app malfunctioned, leaving him stuck in an uncomfortably cold bed. This incident highlights the complexities and potential dysfunctions associated with the incorporation of AI into everyday products, raising questions about our increasing reliance on technology, particularly in areas as fundamental as sleep.
"Woke up because my AI-controlled bed is too cold," the San Francisco-based content creator wrote in a tweet that has since gone viral.
"Went to adjust temperature and I can't because the Eight Sleep app is currently broken," Browne wrote, seething that the situation was "unacceptable."
"I do think in general, when we talk about mattresses and AI, the beauty of the mattress is that it's a huge surface that presents an opportunity to put in a lot of different sensors that can give the user a lot of interesting information about themselves," said Eight Sleep cofounder Alexandra Zatarain in a statement last year.
The goal is to "turn the mattress and the entire bed into a preventative health device," suggesting a shift in how consumers interact with their sleeping environment.
