How to Search In the Era of AI

Google is moving from a traditional search bar to an AI chat interface. The shift is framed as a response to perceived inevitability of AI outperforming other options. The change could weaken the Internet’s solvency while still being pursued because Google feels it has no alternative. If AI-driven search harms the Internet, Google may be affected indirectly and more slowly, potentially allowing a pivot to financial services. Users can strip out AI Overview results by appending “-AI” to search queries, and browser plugins can automate this step. Some options may later become unavailable as AI use increases.
