A car rental company faced operational challenges related to vehicle whereabouts and charges. To address this, a Slack bot was developed to connect seamlessly with the company database. This bot checks vehicle locations hourly to alert staff when cars are over 100 miles from their designated home locations, potentially saving thousands in asset value. Additionally, an internal dashboard was created to manage unassigned tickets and other issues, further optimizing operational costs and ensuring better asset management within the electric vehicle rental service.
The Slack bot now alerts the team if a vehicle is over 100 miles from home, potentially saving $5,000 to $10,000 in asset value.
By connecting directly to our database, I implemented a cron job that checks every vehicle's distance from the home location hourly.
