Hochman makes weekly visits to this makeshift neighborhood of plywood encampments and busted-up campers. Like much of the unhoused population in Los Angeles and elsewhere, the 15 patients Akido cares for on this stretch of Long Beach Avenue suffer from an array of maladies, all made significantly worse by the lack of permanent, safe shelter.
