Google is testing a new AI Search–based option codenamed Darksteel. Justin Mosebach spotted the new version and posted a hard-to-see screenshot on X, reporting that he saw it while completing a Google Opinion Rewards survey. Darksteel was not included among thirty-plus AI Search options observed in March, when a list of roughly 47 experimental modes was catalogued. The earlier list contained a wide variety of specialized tools and labels spanning search modes, topic guides, creative assistants, and utilities. Darksteel appears to be an additional experimental option added to Google’s ongoing AI Search feature testing.
